Indian players’ jerseys for the Champions Trophy 2025 will feature the ICC‘s official logo, including the host nation’s name, Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Wednesday.
Newly-appointed BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, in an interview with an Indian cricket news website, stated that the Indian team’s jerseys would display the tournament’s official logo as per ICC guidelines. “We will follow whatever the ICC guidelines are,” Saikia said.
“We will follow the ICC directive,” he added.
Earlier reports in Indian media suggested that the BCCI had refused to include Pakistan’s name on the Indian team’s jerseys for the tournament. These reports sparked a strong response from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which accused the BCCI of politicizing the sport.
“BCCI is bringing politics into cricket, which is not at all good for the game. They refused to travel to Pakistan. They don’t want to send their captain (to Pakistan) for the opening ceremony, and now there are reports that they don’t want the host nation’s (Pakistan) name printed on their jersey,” a PCB representative stated. “We believe that the world governing body (ICC) will not let this happen and will support Pakistan.”
Sources within the ICC later clarified that it is mandatory for all participating teams to feature the tournament’s official logo, including the host nation’s name, on their kits. “It is the responsibility of every team to add the tournament logo to their jerseys. All teams are obligated to comply with this rule,” an ICC source said.
The Champions Trophy 2025, an eight-team tournament with 15 matches, will take place from February 19 to March 9 across venues in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Dubai. Hosts Pakistan will face New Zealand in the opening match on February 19 in Karachi, while the highly anticipated Pakistan-India clash is scheduled for February 23 in Dubai.
Notably, Pakistan is the only participating team yet to announce its squad for the tournament.
