A late roster move by Kolkata Knight Riders has triggered a cross-league dispute involving the Pakistan Super League.

KKR confirm signing as squad reshuffle continues
Kolkata Knight Riders moved quickly to bring Muzarabani into their squad following changes within their bowling unit ahead of the upcoming IPL campaign.
The Zimbabwe international replaces Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who was released from the squad earlier after the Board of Control for Cricket in India directed franchises to part ways with Bangladeshi players amid ongoing political tensions between India and Bangladesh.
In a statement announcing the signing, the franchise outlined the credentials of the towering fast bowler.
“The 6 ft 8” right-arm quick has emerged as one of Zimbabwe’s leading pace bowlers in the shortest format, known for his steep bounce and ability to strike in key phases of the innings. Muzarabani brings significant T20 experience, having claimed over 90 wickets in more than 80 T20 Internationals at an average of around 21, with best figures of 3/8,” Kolkata Knight Riders said in an official team release announcing the signing of Blessing Muzarabani.
The move also addresses injury setbacks within the squad. Both Harshit Rana and Matheesha Pathirana are currently unavailable after suffering injuries, further increasing the need for additional pace options before the season begins.
Muzarabani is expected to arrive in Kolkata on March 17 ahead of joining the squad for the upcoming IPL season.
“His pace and consistency across global leagues and international cricket add further depth to KKR’s pace attack heading into the season,” the franchise added.
PSL contract dispute emerges after IPL deal
Muzarabani’s IPL signing has also created complications with the Pakistan Super League.
The fast bowler had previously agreed to join Islamabad United as a replacement for West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph. The contract, valued at PKR 11 million (approx. US$ 39K), was finalised after the Zimbabwe international went unsold during the PSL auction.
However, following the opportunity to join the IPL, Muzarabani withdrew from the PSL agreement to join the Kolkata-based franchise.
According to a report by GeoSuper, the Pakistan Cricket Board is now examining legal options against the player, viewing the withdrawal as a potential breach of contractual obligations.

The case reflects ongoing tensions between the IPL and PSL, which continue to overlap on the global cricket calendar.
Muzarabani’s decision marks the second consecutive season in which a player contracted to a PSL franchise has exited the tournament to join an IPL team.
A similar situation unfolded last year when South Africa all-rounder Corbin Bosch withdrew from a deal with Peshawar Zalmi to join Mumbai Indians as a replacement player. The PSL subsequently imposed a one-season ban on Bosch for breaching his agreement.
Strong World Cup form boosts Muzarabani’s profile
KKR’s newest recruit arrives in strong form after an impressive run at the T20 World Cup earlier this year.
The 29-year-old played a central role in Zimbabwe’s campaign, helping the team advance to the Super Eight stage of the tournament. Across six matches he collected 13 wickets, finishing among the leading wicket-takers of the competition.
His performances included a standout spell of four wickets against Australia during the group stage, underlining the impact he can bring to KKR’s bowling attack.
The Zimbabwe pacer is expected to arrive in Kolkata ahead of the IPL season, which is scheduled to begin later this month.
