Lahore Qalandars, the reigning PSL champions, took a unique step by bringing their 2024 Pakistan Super League trophy to the United Kingdom to celebrate with key players Sam Billings and Tom Curran. Both England-based players missed the final due to security-related issues.

The celebratory event was hosted at the Pakistan High Commission in London by High Commissioner Dr Mohammad Faisal. It brought together Qalandars’ senior leadership, players, former cricket officials, media, and the Pakistani diaspora in the UK.
Shaheen Shah Afridi, team captain, led the delegation alongside CEO Atif Rana and COO Sameen Rana. Billings and Curran were present to receive the tribute. The event also saw participation from former PCB chairman Najam Sethi and journalist Jugnu Mohsin, highlighting its cultural and symbolic importance.

“To win three trophies in four years is not child’s play,” said Afridi. “Credit goes to our player development program. We work hard to groom local talent and their contributions have been crucial.”
He added: “Sam and Tom missed the final, so we brought the trophy to them. That’s the spirit of Qalandars — celebrating every moment with every team member.”
Billings and Curran praise Qalandars’ team culture
Sam Billings commended the franchise’s inclusive atmosphere: “Sameen and Shaheen have built something truly special. Everyone is treated like family — and that’s why people perform.”
Tom Curran echoed the sentiment: “It felt like home from day one. Management and players alike were incredibly welcoming, and I was proud to be part of the squad.”

Beyond celebration, Lahore Qalandars used the visit to deepen ties with the UK cricketing community. CEO Atif Rana expressed gratitude to Dr Faisal and the diaspora: “We’re here for our fans and especially the youth in the UK who follow Qalandars with passion.”
Sameen Rana outlined plans for international growth: “We’ll soon hold overseas trials here and collaborate with county cricket clubs through exchange programs. It’s a step to offer Pakistani talent global exposure and professional opportunities.”

Najam Sethi shared his early reservations and eventual pride in the team’s name: “I wasn’t sure about ‘Qalandars’ at first — I thought we needed a warrior name. But Atif insisted on reflecting our Sufi tradition. Now, it’s a globally recognized franchise.”
Dr Mohammad Faisal added: “Lahore Qalandars are making us proud internationally. We wish them continued success and hope their players shine on the global stage.”
