All-rounder Will Sutherland will remain in red until at least the end of BBL|17 after signing a new deal.

Sutherland, who only signed fresh deal last July, has penned a three-year extension to solidify his commitment to the club that will take him through to the end of the 2027/28 season.

“I couldn’t wait to put pen to paper again,” Sutherland said.

“While it didn’t happen for us last season, I’ve got great confidence in where we’re going as a club and I want to be part of it.”

Sutherland, 24, joins fellow young gun Jake Fraser-McGurk who signed a four-year extension earlier this month.

“Will is a type of player we want to help lead our club for years to come, and we’re thrilled to have him for four more seasons,” Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten, said.

“We’ve witnessed his impressive development as a player and leader first-hand and are continually impressed with the way he goes about his business. The playing group really look up to Will and he’s such a great club person.

“He’s such an integral part of what we’re building. Both Will and Jake are key pillars that will help take our club forward.”

Sutherland has been a Renegade since BBL|07 and has played 53 matches since making his Big Bash debut in the club’s title winning BBL|08 campaign.

He boasts an ability to impact in all facets of the game and is often relied upon to bowl and bat in high-pressure situations for the Renegades.

He’s considered one of Australian cricket’s prospects; strong recent white ball form earning him national selection in Australia’s squad for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies.

An emerging leader, Sutherland took the reins as Victoria’s Sheffield Shield captain in September before being elevated as vice-captain and then captain for the Renegades.

He also led Australia A in a recent three-game ODI series against New Zealand A.
