The Melbourne Renegades have locked in a key part of the club’s future with talented young players Mackenzie Harvey, Zak Evans and Jake Fraser-McGurk agreeing to new deals.

Harvey, 20, has signed a two-year deal with the Renegades through until the end of BBL|12.

Evans, 20, and Fraser-McGurk, 18, were already contracted for BBL|11 but have agreed to an additional season, also through until the end of BBL|12.

“All three of these young players showed their talent with match-winning performances at various points last season,” Melbourne Renegades List Manager Andrew Lynch said.

“To have this young talent on our list alongside our established core provides a nice balance for our incoming coach.”

Harvey was named Player of the Match following his match winning knock of 47 off just 21 balls in the Renegades win over the Melbourne Stars in January.

He first joined the Renegades as a 17-year-old Local Replacement Player during the BBL|07 season and was a part of the club’s title winning side in BBL|08.

“I’ve loved my time at the club since I joined a few years ago,” Harvey said.

“There’s a great group of experienced players who provide so much knowledge and we’ve got a young group starting to emerge now too who I’m looking forward to playing alongside for a long time to come.”

Fraser-McGurk scored an unbeaten 29 in a match winning 68 run partnership with Mohammad Nabi in the Renegades win over the Strikers last season, while Zak Evans captured 5-33 against the Hobart Hurricanes.

Renegades General Manager David Lever said the latest signings are a key part of the club’s strategy.

“We’re committed to attracting, retaining and developing the best young Victorian talent,” he said.

“This group, together with players like Will Sutherland and Mitch Perry, give our members and fans so much to look forward to in the next few years as they really start to establish themselves in the BBL.”
