Stars lock in Peter Moores for two more BBL seasons
The Melbourne Stars have confirmed that head coach Peter Moores has signed a two-year contract extension, committing to the club until the end of BBL|16.
Moores, who took over ahead of BBL|13, led the Stars to a remarkable turnaround last season, guiding the team to its first finals appearance in five years. The Stars rallied from an 0-5 start to win five consecutive games and secure a postseason spot, reigniting support at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
“I’m absolutely thrilled to sign on for another two years,” Moores said. “I’ve already experienced some incredible moments with the club, and there was no better place to be last summer than the MCG when we got on a roll.”
Moores praised Marcus Stoinis for his leadership and expressed optimism for the future of the squad heading into BBL|15.
“Marcus’ leadership impressed me last year, and I expect he’ll grow even more in that role. Our list is in a good place, and we’ve got a great chance to strengthen in key areas through the draft. I’m not putting a limit on what we can all achieve together.”
Stars focused on continuity and momentum
Melbourne Stars General Manager Max Abbott said that Moores’ reappointment is part of a strategy to build on recent momentum.
“The feedback from all parts of the organisation has been overwhelmingly positive about Peter’s leadership. You don’t come back from a 0-5 start to make the finals without strength in the dressing room, and Peter’s ability to keep the group united and focused was key,” said Abbott.
“He’s a world-class coach. By maintaining continuity, we’re confident the club can build on that momentum and hit the ground running in BBL|15.”
Moores brings extensive international experience, having coached England in two separate stints and worked across various domestic and franchise competitions globally. His influence has helped shape a competitive culture as the Stars eye a deeper finals run.
