The Melbourne Stars are pleased to announce the signing of young gun Sam Elliott for the upcoming KFC BBL|11 season.

The 21-year-old was formerly a development rookie with the Stars in KFC BBL|09 and has impressed the Stars coaching staff with his pace and potential.

Son of former Test opener Matthew, the right-arm medium pacer also impressed in his List A debut for Victoria earlier this year when he secured two crucial wickets breaking key partnerships in the South Australian line up.

Making the move to a full contract, Elliott said he was thrilled about the potential to debut for the Stars this season.

“I’d like to thank the club for giving me this opportunity. It has been great to be around the group in recent seasons and learn from the senior players and coaching staff. If I got an opportunity to debut for the Stars this season it would be a dream come true but for now I’ll be focused on what I can do to help the team” Elliott said.

“I’ve been working hard to develop my skill sets and training with our bowling unit has been really beneficial.”

Melbourne Stars BBL Head Coach David Hussey said he was pleased to welcome Sam to the squad.

“It’s great to see Sam transition from his rookie contract in the last few years and become a member of the squad for the upcoming season,” Hussey said.

“We have watched him mature as a player over the past couple of years and this is a well-deserved opportunity for him and a great chance to show us and the rest of the competition what he brings to the table.”

Melbourne Stars Interim General Manager Blair Crouch welcomed the newest addition to Team Green.

“We welcome Sam to Team Green officially for the upcoming season. We are thrilled to see Sam come through the Stars pathway and use the opportunity to further his game, which is a credit to both Sam and the whole Stars organisation,” Crouch said.
