Pakistan cricketers Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq have had their mobile phones sent for forensic examination as part of an investigation into alleged leaks from the national team’s dressing room during its Test series against England, according to a report by Geo News.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is examining the devices after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took possession of them and transferred them to the relevant authorities. The inquiry remains ongoing, with no final finding announced against either player.
Forensic examination continues in Islamabad
Investigators are reviewing digital material stored on the phones, including messages, contacts and other information that could be relevant to the inquiry. Content circulated on social media in connection with the alleged dressing-room leaks is also being examined.
An initial assessment of the devices did not uncover anything significant. The NCCIA is continuing a more extensive forensic examination at its headquarters in Islamabad before completing its findings.
The scope of the inquiry also extends to the players’ financial activity around the England series. Relevant bank accounts and transactions from before and after the series are being scrutinised, with investigators set to trace the origin and destination of funds should any transactions considered suspicious emerge during the process.
Rizwan and Imam questioned in Lahore
Rizwan and Imam appeared before the NCCIA in Lahore earlier this month as investigators sought information concerning the alleged leaks.
The questioning covered their contacts and meetings around practice sessions and matches in England. Both players requested additional time to provide written responses following their appearances before the agency.
Rizwan has since submitted a written response seeking clarification over why he was summoned. He has also asked why his mobile phone remains in the authorities’ possession.
PCB awaits outcome of investigation
The PCB has previously declined to comment while the inquiry is underway. Its next course of action involving the two players is expected to depend on the NCCIA’s findings.
Once the forensic work has been completed, the agency is expected to provide its findings to PCB officials. The allegations remain under investigation, and no determination against Rizwan or Imam has been made.
