New Zealand’s Dream11 Super Smash competition is knocking engagement records out of the park, breaking boundaries in broadcast viewership, digital exposure and merchandise sales for the 2024-25 season.
With the help of free-to-air coverage across TVNZ+ and DUKE, Super Smash has reached over one million Kiwis across Aotearoa this season.*
Social media content covering the competition has amassed over 7.3 million views across NZC’s channels since the tournament began in late December.
To pay homage to the growth of T20 cricket in New Zealand, a retro-style playing kit was introduced which proved immediately popular among players and fans.
Designed to replicate Major Associations’ former uniforms, the retro shirts flew off the shelves with the public snapping up 50 percent of Dynasty’s stock within 24 hours of it going on sale in December.
KFC’s “6’s for Surf” campaign returned this summer with KFC pledging to donate $100 to Surf Lifesaving NZ for every six hit.
376 is the current tally of sixes, meaning a minimum of $37,600 will be donated to Surf Lifesaving NZ with two games remaining and more sixes to be added to the total.
With a gap in the WHITE FERNS and BLACKCAPS international home summer, a plethora of international players have been on display with dominant performances from local stars such as Melie Kerr, Eden Carson, Rachin Ravindra, and Matt Henry.
The women’s competition has also attracted signings of quality overseas imports such as Australia’s Ellyse Perry and Amanda-Jade Wellington, Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, and England’s Sarah Glenn and Hollie Armitage.
NZC Marketing Executive Emily Anderson said the engaged fans and quality cricket had made this Super Smash season a success.
“It feels like this has been one of the most successful Super Smash seasons to date,” said Anderson.
“The hugely positive response to the launch of the retro kits showed how engaged fans were from the start and it really set the tone for the season ahead.
“It’s been exciting having the BLACKCAPS and WHITE FERNS available, strengthening the quality of the competition and playing alongside rising domestic talent.
“The sheer amount of matches that have gone down to the wire has been remarkable and has made for a lot of thrilling finishes – which has no doubt helped engagement numbers.”
“Heading into the last round robin matches there were eight teams still in contention for finals
It has been the tightest Dream11 Super Smash competition on record meaning qualification for the highly anticipated finals weekend came down to the results of the final round-robin play.
The Otago Sparks and the Central Stags snared direct qualification into today’s Grand Finals, finishing on an unbeaten 28 points. They’ll take on the Wellington Blaze and Canterbury Kings after their defeats over Northern Brave Women and Men yesterday.
Tickets to the Grand Finals at the Cello Basin Reserve can be purchased at supersmash.co.nz.
Matches will be live and free-to-air in New Zealand on TVNZ+ and TVNZ DUKE, with live scoring at nzc.nz and the NZC App.
