The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially inaugurated the renovated National Stadium, one of the key venues for the upcoming Champions Trophy. The stadium, which underwent four months of renovation, now boasts a state-of-the-art building at the far end, featuring dressing rooms, hospitality boxes, and designated areas for broadcasters and match officials.
Additional upgrades include new LED lights, two large screens, and improved spectator facilities. However, the placement of one of the larger screens obstructs the view for some fans, and project manager Mohsin Chohan acknowledged that it would need to be relocated after the tournament.
To recognize the immense efforts of the 700 workers—including labourers, technicians, engineers, and loaders—who worked tirelessly on the stadium’s transformation, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi hosted a grand feast. A viral video circulating on social media captures the workers enjoying their meal, with Naqvi himself dining among them to celebrate their hard work.
“Their persistence made it possible to complete the upgradation on time,” Naqvi said, appreciating their dedication.
The National Stadium is set to host several key matches in the Champions Trophy, beginning with the inaugural clash between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 19. Additionally, the venue will stage the South Africa vs. Pakistan tri-series match on Wednesday and the tournament final on February 14.
The PCB had initially allocated a budget of four billion Pakistani Rupees for the renovation, though costs appear to have exceeded estimates, with some work still to be completed after the Champions Trophy concludes.
