Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has praised the efforts of the country’s security forces for ensuring the safe and successful hosting of Pakistan’s home cricket season, including the recently concluded T20I tri-series involving Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
The tri-series, which ended with Pakistan clinching the title in Rawalpindi, marked the culmination of a packed home schedule that had been clouded by serious security concerns following a tragic bomb blast in Islamabad earlier in November. Sri Lanka, initially hesitant to continue their tour, eventually played after high-level assurances from Naqvi and his team.
Security a major challenge following Islamabad blast
The PCB faced a significant logistical and security test in continuing the international cricket season after the blast raised alarm bells for visiting sides. Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the two primary venues, were under heightened alert.
“Security in Rawalpindi and Islamabad remained a major challenge in November, especially after a tragic incident. Yet an outstanding job was done by Rawalpindi Police, Islamabad Police, Rangers and our Army,” Naqvi wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
He emphasized the immense scale and intensity of the operations carried out daily to maintain a secure environment for players, officials, and fans alike.
“Thousands of jawans and officers stood on duty every single day to ensure Pakistan’s name stays high and our guest nations feel completely secure. Thank you, Team Pakistan,” he added.

High-level coordination and diplomatic outreach
As both PCB Chairman and Interior Minister, Naqvi played a dual role. He engaged in multiple rounds of discussions with Sri Lankan officials and players to provide confidence in Pakistan’s security protocols. His direct involvement was instrumental in keeping the tour on track.
The efforts of Pakistan’s security personnel were not only praised for their thoroughness but also for their professionalism and coordination during a period of heightened alert.
International support acknowledged
Naqvi also extended his appreciation to the visiting cricket boards for their continued support during a tense and uncertain time.
“Grateful to the South African, Zimbabwe and Sri Lankan boards and teams for standing with us,” he wrote.
The participation of these teams not only enabled the series to go on but also helped uphold Pakistan’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination for international cricket.
Pakistan reinforces its credentials as international host
The successful completion of the tri-nation T20I series – along with earlier ODI commitments – has further solidified Pakistan’s credentials as a capable host of international cricket, even under challenging circumstances.
While security concerns may persist, the PCB’s ability to deliver a smooth and incident-free series despite November’s setbacks is being seen as a major achievement for the cricket board, the security forces, and the government.
This home season may prove to be a turning point in reshaping perceptions about international cricket tours to Pakistan, with Naqvi and his coordinated security strategy playing a central role.
