PCB looks to tap into American cricket market

Cricket is rapidly gaining traction in the United States, largely driven by the sizable South Asian immigrant population. Last year, the ICC hosted the Cricket World Cup in the U.S., with the Pakistan-India match in New York drawing a capacity crowd.

According to sources, as reported by Cricket Pakistan, PSL Chief Salman Naseer is currently visiting multiple cities across the U.S. Meanwhile, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who previously visited the U.S. as Pakistan’s Interior Minister during President Donald Trump’s inauguration, has also engaged in discussions about cricket-related opportunities.

The American cricket scene is heavily influenced by Indian team owners and associations, creating challenges for Pakistan to establish a presence. Despite this, the PCB is determined to compete in this lucrative market and is actively exploring ways to make an impact.

As part of its expansion strategy, two new teams will be introduced in PSL season 11. Sources indicate that two Pakistani individuals involved in American cricket are interested in purchasing teams, with one expected to secure a franchise. Additionally, a major stakeholder in Pakistan cricket has expressed interest in investing in a team, potentially leading to an exciting bidding process.

The PCB is also considering the possibility of hosting PSL matches in the U.S. in the future. While this initiative is in its early stages and will require time to succeed, the PCB has officially started its efforts to establish a foothold in the American cricket market.
