Pierre de Bruyn steps down as Namibia head coach
Cricket Namibia has announced the resignation of Pierre de Bruyn as Head Coach of the Namibia national men’s cricket team, marking the end of a transformational six-year era. De Bruyn has decided to step down to prioritize his family and has accepted a new role with the Titans franchise in Centurion, South Africa.
Transformational leadership and historic milestones
Since joining Cricket Namibia in 2018, de Bruyn has overseen a golden period for Namibian cricket. Under his leadership, Namibia secured ODI status in 2019, a milestone that significantly elevated the country’s international standing.
De Bruyn also guided Namibia to three consecutive ICC Men’s T20 World Cup tournaments in 2021, 2022, and 2024 — a remarkable achievement for the rising cricket nation. The team’s consistent success was recognized with four ICC Associate Member Men’s Performance of the Year awards during his tenure.
A lasting impact on Namibian cricket
Beyond on-field success, de Bruyn instilled a culture of professionalism, belief, and resilience within the Eagles squad, shaping a team capable of competing confidently against the world’s best.
“We are immensely grateful to Pierre for his vision, leadership, and the legacy he leaves behind,” said Johan Muller, CEO of Cricket Namibia. “His impact will be felt for years to come, and while we are sad to see him go, we support his decision to focus on family and a new chapter.”
De Bruyn reflects on his decision
Reflecting on his departure, de Bruyn shared: “This decision has been one of the hardest I’ve ever made. Stepping away after six years isn’t easy, but it’s time to focus on my family. I leave with deep gratitude for everyone who’s been part of this journey. Namibia will always have a special place in my heart.”
Next steps for Cricket Namibia
Cricket Namibia will soon begin the search for a new head coach. In the interim, the current coaching and support staff will oversee preparations for upcoming fixtures, ensuring continuity and momentum as the Eagles continue their growth on the world stage.
Cricket Namibia extends its heartfelt thanks to Pierre de Bruyn for his extraordinary service and wishes him every success with the Titans.
