Proteas cancel East London stop on Mace Trophy Tour due to protests

Cricket South Africa confirmed the East London leg of the trophy tour has been called off on safety grounds, while events in Durban, Gqeberha, Kimberley, Bloemfontein, and Cape Town will proceed as planned.

CSA cancels East London stop on Proteas Mace Trophy Tour due to safety concerns

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced the cancellation of the planned Mace Trophy Tour stop in East London, originally scheduled for Thursday, 25 September 2025, due to ongoing protests in the city.

In a statement, CSA confirmed that the decision was made in consultation with security experts, with the safety of the public, players, and staff as the top priority.

“Our ultimate aim in making this difficult decision was to prioritise the safety and security of the public, the team and staff,” CSA said. “We regret the cancellation but trust the public will understand the necessity of this step.”

All other Mace Trophy Tour events to proceed as scheduled

Despite the East London cancellation, the rest of the Proteas’ Mace Trophy Tour will continue as planned, with events in Kimberley, Bloemfontein, Durban, Gqeberha, and Cape Town still confirmed.

  • Tuesday, 23 September 2025:
    • 12:30 – 14:00: Tsoseletso High School – Rocklands, Bloemfontein
    • 17:00 – 18:30: Airport Meet & Greet – King Shaka International Airport, Durban
  • Wednesday, 24 September 2025:
    • 09:30 – 12:00: Castle Lager Braai Day at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium – Durban
    • 17:30 – 19:30: Boardwalk Mall Signing Session – Gqeberha
  • Friday, 26 September 2025:
    • 12:00 – 13:00: Fan Meet & Greet – Grand Parade, Cape Town
    • 13:00 – 14:45: CBD Open Bus Parade – Cape Town
