Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar and Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins have been fined for slow over-rate offences during Match 65 of the TATA IPL 2025, held at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Second offence for RCB, first for SRH
Rajat Patidar, designated captain for RCB in the match, was fined INR 24 lakh as it marked the team’s second minimum over-rate offence of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct.
All other members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each fined either INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fee, whichever was lower.
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins was fined INR 12 lakh for his team’s first over-rate offence of IPL 2025. The breach falls under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to maintaining the minimum over rate in matches.
IPL’s stance on over-rate enforcement
The IPL continues to enforce strict measures to ensure matches run on schedule, with increasing penalties for repeat offences. Over-rate offences affect not only captains but also penalize the entire playing squad financially, reinforcing collective accountability.
The match saw competitive performances from both teams, but the post-match sanctions have once again brought attention to the need for timely over completion in the high-paced tournament.
