Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has been fined INR 30 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during Match 70 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Third over-rate offence triggers higher penalty
This marks LSG’s third offence of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate violations. As a result, Pant incurred the highest applicable fine for captains, with the rest of the playing XI—including the Impact Player—also penalized.
Each of the remaining players was fined either INR 12 lakh or 50% of their individual match fees, whichever was lesser, as per the league’s disciplinary guidelines.
IPL continues clampdown on over-rate issues
Over-rate enforcement has become a key focus in recent IPL seasons, with the league implementing strict penalties for repeated offences. Captains are held accountable for their team’s compliance, and multiple infractions carry increasing financial consequences.
Match 70 saw LSG fall behind the required over-rate while fielding against a high-scoring RCB lineup, leading to this third breach of the season and triggering the automatic fine escalation.
