Rishabh Pant, captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has been fined following his team’s slow over-rate during Match 45 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
As this was LSG’s second over-rate offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct—which deals with minimum over-rate violations—Pant has been fined INR 24 lakhs.
LSG players also penalized for over-rate breach
In addition to Pant’s fine, the rest of the LSG Playing XI, including the designated Impact Player, were fined either INR six lakhs or 25% of their respective match fees, whichever amount was lower, as per IPL regulations.

The breach occurred during a closely fought contest where MI defeated LSG in front of a packed crowd at Wankhede. Despite LSG’s efforts, the slow over-rate cost them financially and could weigh into future disciplinary measures if further offences occur this season.

Under the IPL Code of Conduct, teams are expected to complete their overs within the stipulated time. Repeated slow over-rates can lead to escalating fines and potential match bans for captains upon subsequent offences.
Given LSG’s second breach, the franchise will need to be particularly cautious in upcoming matches to avoid stricter sanctions that could impact their playoff aspirations.
