MI Cape Town’s Dewald Brevis is warming up nicely for the Betway SA20 Season 3.

The 21-year-old starlet has shown promising early season form for the South Africa ‘A’ side with scores of 49 and 74 in the second “Test” against Sri Lanka ‘A’ at Willowmoore Park in Benoni this past week.

Brevis is a crucial part of the MI Cape Town squad and his runs at the top of the order will be invaluable to the Newlands-based team’s bid to reach the Betway SA20 playoffs for the first time next season.

“I am very excited. Really looking forward to it (Season 3),” Brevis told Betway SA20. “I don’t want to look too far ahead, but the team really looks great and can’t wait to see everyone again and try to play our best cricket.”

MI Cape Town have beefed up their squad considerably for next season with England Test captain and double white-ball World Cup winner Ben Stokes heading down to Newlands.

The inspirational Stokes will be joined by New Zealand’s premier swing bowler Trent Boult, while former MICT captain Rashid Khan will also be returning after missing Season 2 due to injury.

Brevis is certainly looking to tap into the wealth of knowledge that Stokes’ possesses when the superstar all-rounder arrives in the Mother City.

“I can’t wait to spend time with Stokes to get to know how he thinks about the game,” he said. “I think he’s going to be a great asset for our team. He has so much experience. He is a leader by example, we’re so excited to have in our team.”

Having now experienced playing in all the major T20 Leagues around the world, such as the Indian Premier League (IPL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and Major League Cricket (MLC), Brevis still feels that Betway SA20 compares with the very best.

“It’s great. It shows how people love cricket, the way the fans come in,” he said. “It’s high quality with the best players in the world playing against each other and it is great that you can test yourself at that level.”
