Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has once again made headlines — not for his performance on the pitch, but for his political rhetoric — this time targeting India and rallying behind the Pakistani military in the aftermath of recent cross-border tensions.
At the center of the latest controversy was Afridi’s leading role at the “Youm-e-Tashakur” (Day of Gratitude) rally held in Karachi over the weekend. The gathering, widely circulated on social media through viral video clips, was organized to show support for Pakistan’s military response to India’s recent strikes on Pakistani military establishments.
Afridi delivered a fiery speech, praising the Pakistani armed forces while lashing out at India for alleged aggression and the targeting of civilians.
“The world saw how strong our army is when we took action. When you challenge us, you’ll understand how tough you really are. You killed our innocent children and civilians,” Afridi said, as reported by The Express Tribune.
His comments came just days after both nations publicly reaffirmed a complete ceasefire following escalating military tensions along the border. Afridi argued that Pakistan’s military acted in self-defense and had proven its strength in the face of adversity.
In his remarks, Afridi mentioned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, positioning Pakistan as resilient and unyielding.
“Pakistan’s defense is unbreakable. Now, Modi realises how costly it is to confront Pakistan,” he declared.
