Shane Deitz is set to become the new Head Coach of Pakistan’s women’s cricket team, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) moving to appoint the former Australian cricketer following his departure from West Indies.

According to a report by Geo News, the 51-year-old is in line to succeed Wahab Riaz as part of the PCB‘s plans to restructure the national women’s team’s coaching and management setup.

The appointment would bring Deitz back into international coaching shortly after the conclusion of his three-year tenure with the West Indies women’s team.

Deitz leaves West Indies after three years

Deitz’s contract with Cricket West Indies expired on October 31, bringing his time as Women’s Head Coach to an end after he declined an extension. Both parties agreed to conclude their association.

Cricket West Indies subsequently named Andre Coley, who previously coached the West Indies men’s team, as Interim Head Coach of the women’s side.

Deitz could begin his new assignment against his former team, with Pakistan scheduled to tour the Caribbean for a bilateral series in mid-December. He is expected to take charge before the tour, although Cricket West Indies has yet to announce the match schedule.

PCB prepares changes to Pakistan women’s coaching staff

The anticipated appointment comes after Wahab Riaz’s involvement with the national women’s team as a Consultant and Mentor since late 2025.

The former Pakistan fast bowler worked with a support staff that included Abdur Rehman, Imran Farhat and Umaid Asif, focusing on player development, fitness and tactical preparation.

The coaching changes come amid a difficult run of results for Pakistan’s women’s team. At the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, Pakistan won just one of their five group matches and failed to progress. They also missed the Women’s Asia Cup final after losing to Sri Lanka in the semi-finals, while Sri Lanka defeated them 2–1 in both their ODI and T20I bilateral series.

Pakistan also finished third at the Asian Games, losing their semi-final to Sri Lanka before beating Bangladesh in the bronze-medal playoff.

Following Pakistan’s campaign at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in June 2026, Riaz identified game awareness, tactical execution and handling pressure as areas requiring improvement.

Deitz’s arrival would give Pakistan a Head Coach with recent international women’s cricket experience as the PCB seeks to strengthen the team’s coaching structure.

The PCB has yet to formally confirm his appointment or announce the composition of the revised coaching staff.
