Shreyas Iyer, captain of the Punjab Kings (PBKS), has been fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during Match 49 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday.
This marks PBKS’s first over-rate offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate violations. In accordance with league rules, the team captain is fined ₹12 lakh for a first offence.
What does Article 2.22 state?
Under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, teams are expected to complete their bowling innings within the stipulated time. A failure to meet this requirement results in financial penalties and, in repeated cases, possible match suspensions for the captain.
