India star batter Smriti Mandhana has postponed her wedding and wiped her Instagram of all wedding-related content amid a health emergency involving her father, Shrinivas Mandhana. What was expected to be one of the most talked-about weddings in Indian cricket has now been put on hold indefinitely, as the family focuses entirely on recovery and privacy.
Father’s sudden health scare leads to indefinite postponement
The wedding, originally scheduled to take place on November 23 in Sangli, Maharashtra, was called off the same day after Smriti’s father experienced a serious health issue.
“Today in the morning when he was having breakfast, Smriti Mandana’s father, Mr. Srinivas Mandhana, got unwell. We waited for a while. We thought that maybe it’s normal, he will be fine. But he was getting worse. So we thought, let’s not take any risk, so we called an ambulance and took him to the hospital. Now he is under observation,” Smriti’s manager Tuhin Mishra told the media.
The timing could not have been more emotional. A week-long celebration had already begun, with many members of India’s Women’s World Cup-winning team reportedly present in Sangli. But once the health scare occurred, the families acted quickly to put the festivities on hold.
“You know Smriti is very close to her father. She decided that until her father gets well, this marriage, which was supposed to happen today, is indefinitely postponed. Now he is under observation, and the doctor has said that he will have to stay in the hospital. And until he gets well, because we are also in shock, and we want him to recover soon,” Mishra added.
Doctor confirms cardiac symptoms
According to the family doctor, the situation required immediate medical attention due to heart-related symptoms.
“At around 1.30 pm, Sriniwas Mandhana got left-sided chest pain, we call it ‘angina’ in medical term. As the symptoms surfaced, his son called me, we sent ambulance, he was shifted to hospital. We found out in ECG, other reports, that cardiac enzymes are elevated, hence we need to keep him in observation,” said Dr. Naman Shah according to PTI.
Mandhana’s father remains hospitalized and under close observation. There has been no official update on his discharge timeline, and a new wedding date has not been announced.
Social media cleanup raises speculation
Adding to the speculation and concern, Mandhana and close friends including teammates Jemimah Rodrigues and Shreyanka Patil have deleted all wedding-related content from their social media accounts. This included the engagement announcement, mehendi reels, and even the viral proposal video. However, older casual photos with fiancé Palash Muchhal remain intact.
The move has not gone unnoticed by fans, with many expressing concern and support online. Sources close to the family suggest the digital cleanup reflects a desire for privacy and emotional space during a deeply personal and difficult time.
Dual health emergencies for the couple
In a further twist, Palash Muchhal, the music composer Mandhana is set to marry, was also reportedly hospitalized briefly last week. While his condition was not deemed serious and he has since been discharged, the back-to-back health emergencies played a significant role in the families’ decision to pause all plans.
With both families currently prioritizing health and recovery over celebration, no new date has been set for the wedding.
