To celebrate Women’s Month, the Six Gun Grill Western Province Women’s cricket team partnered with Workshop17 to host an event to shine the light on Women’s game within the South African and international landscape.

The event space forms part of the newly built Workshop17 co-working space in the Snakepit Building in the new business precinct at the ground and it was the perfect setting for Workshop17 members as well as a contingent of WP Cricket’s female staff and other invited guests to enjoy an evening celebrating the 2021 CSA Women’s T20 Champions.

Taking part in the panel discussion was Six Gun Grill WP coach Claire Terblanche, captain Leah Jones and Momentum Proteas / WP cricketers Andrie Steyn, Sinalo Jafta and Lara Goodall.

Six Gun Grill Western Province Women’s Coach Claire Terblanche: “Firstly, I want to thank Workshop17 for hosting the function, it was incredible to see such an amazing and creative space within our cricket ground. In our panel discussion, what stood out for me, is the fact that it is clear is that despite women’s sport seeing major growth of late, there is still a long way to go to where we should be.”

“To get there, we need to see more investment from all stakeholders, we need to be able to support our game at grass root, senior club, all the way up to women’s provincial level to give as many young girls as possible the opportunity to reach their potential and shine on the world stage.”

“It’s important to have these types of discussions in an open forum which allow us to showcase our talent, but also highlight the challenges that we have in the women’s game. Thank you to our incredible partners at Six Gun Grill and Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages who have thrown their weight behind us at WP, and we look forward to attracting many more corporate partners going forward.”

Workshop17’s Marketing Manager Penelope Meniere: “During Women’s month, it was truly an honour to host the Six Gun Grill WP Women’s team members at our new space at Newlands. It was a privilege for our members to engage with the team and to get an insight into the life of a female cricketer at provincial and international level. We look forward to many more events with this superb group of cricketers and we wish them every bit of success for the coming season.”
