Dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Philippe and South African allrounder Marizanne Kapp are the Sydney Sixers Player of the Tournament for BBL|09 and WBBL|05.

Sixers batsman Daniel Hughes was also announced as the Steve Waugh Medallist on Saturday as the Most Outstanding Male Player for NSW during the season.

Hughes, 31, claimed the NSW Blues One-Day Player of the Season as well.

All three were to be recognised at the Annual Cricket NSW Awards night this week which was cancelled due to the coronavirus health crisis.

It is Kapp’s second Player of the Tournament award and Philippe’s first.

In just his second season as a Sixer, Philippe was integral to the club’s second BBL title.

His 52 from 29 balls in the BBL|09 Final at the SCG was one of five half-centuries during the tournament and ultimately the deciding factor against the Melbourne Stars.

Philippe, 22, was named Player of the Final. His highest score of 83 not out from 52 balls came against the Adelaide Strikers in Coffs Harbour.

The young Western Australian made 487 runs during BBL|09 at an average of 37.46, striking at nearly 130.

Philippe also claimed seven catches and four stumpings, passing former Sixers captain Brad Haddin as the all-time leading BBL wicketkeeper in magenta. Philippe now has 23 dismissals to his name.

Kapp, 30, claimed 15 wickets at the impressive average of 20 including her first WBBL hat-trick.

The right-arm seamer joined wife Dane van Niekerk as the only two Sixers to claim a WBBL hat-trick. Kapp was the Sixers’ leading wicket taker for WBBL|05.

Known most notably for her feats with the ball, Kapp enjoyed her best WBBL campaign with the bat, scoring 232 runs at a strike rate of almost 120. She hit her two highest WBBL scores of 52 not out and 55 not out in consecutive matches.

Kapp last claimed the Sixers WBBL Player of the Tournament in WBBL|01.

Kapp is now the second all-time leading WBBL wicket taker for the Sixers and fourth in the history of the competition.

Her 77 career wickets from 70 WBBL matches trails Sixers seamer Sarah Aley, who is second on the all-time list for the Women’s Big Bash, by six.

Hughes amassed 1,105 runs across the Marsh One Day Cup and Sheffield Shield competitions for the Blues averaging 73.3 in the shorter format.

He made 440 One Day runs from seven innings including a career best of 152.

During the Blues successful Shield campaign this season, Hughes made 665 runs at 44.3 including a century in each innings against South Australia at Bankstown Oval during February.

His 136 during that match was his highest First Class score.

NSW was awarded a record 47th Sheffield Shield title when the competition was suspended after nine rounds due to the coronavirus crisis.
