NSW and the ACT has recorded an increase in participation for the 2019/20 season, thanks to the efforts of volunteers and Community Cricket staff, including many hundreds across the Thunder Nation.

Sydney Thunder star Daniel Sams praised the amazing contribution community volunteers make.

“There are so many volunteers that are just willing to give up their time and put the work in. It’s awesome to see,” Sams said.

“Without the community-based and grassroots-level you’re not really going to have the next generation of cricketers. It’s essential we have such volunteers.”

Female cricket also continued to blossom, with a 10% growth in female registered participants enjoying cricket during the 2019/20 season.

Sabrina Shaideen, Cricket Manager for Parramatta – in the heart of the Thunder Nation – said the results were a really positive step towards making cricket equal across both genders.

“It’s great to see so many girls out there giving cricket a go,” she said.

“I think the biggest thing for us is to make cricket more accessible to everyone, and to inspire everyone to love and play cricket.”
