With every match, big-hitting Englishman Alex Hales challenges the record books

His captain Callum Ferguson describes him as a “class act” and there could be no better description for Sydney Thunder’s English opener Alex Hales.

His 535 runs in BBL|10 is the second most runs scored by a Thunder batsman in one  and he is chasing down the 576 he scored in BBL|09. The 30 sixes he has hit this season is also a new BBL record for one season.

“It’s great for our young players to see a guy play great conventional cricket shots but put players under enormous pressure. He’s been great,” said Ferguson.

Hales is 81 runs clear of Sixers’ Josh Philippe in the race for the BKT Golden Bat as the BBL|10 leading run-scorer.

His 110 from 56 balls against the Sixers in Adelaide, on January 22, is the highest score this season and second highest in Thunder BBL history.

It was this type of form that was rewarded with selection in the BBL|10 Team of the Tournament chosen by the eight club coaches.

His 1,466 BBL career runs is the second most by a male overseas player in Big Bash history including stints with the Adelaide Strikers.

Hales will be back in action during Thunder’s Knockout Final against the Brisbane Heat at Manuka Oval.
