A strong Mumbai squad with many India players will play its first T20 game against Oman on Sunday, August 22 at the picturesque Oman Cricket Academy Ground 1 in Amerat.

Coached by renowned cricketer Amol Muzumdar, one of the best batsmen not to have played for India, Mumbai team comprises many star players who have represented India including Shivam Dube, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Armaan Jaffer.

The other two T20 matches will be played on August 24 and 26 followed by the three 50-over games on August 29, 31 and September 2. All the matches will start at 7.30 am.

All-rounder Dube, who bats left-handed and bowls right-arm medium pace, has played 13 T20 Internationals and one ODI for India. He played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL last year and will be representing Rajastan Royal this season.

Jaiswal is another batting stalwart in the team and is seen by many to be an India prospect after he became the player of the tournament at ICC Under-19 World Cup 2020 in South Africa. His batting exploits led him to become a hot property at the 2020 IPL auction where Rajasthan Royal signed him up for 24 million rupees (over $340,000). He is also a wily leg-break bowler.

The team also includes right hand batsman Armaan Jaffer, who became famous for breaking the schools cricket record by scoring 498 for Rizvi Springfield School in a Giles Shield tournament in 2010. Armaan is nephew of former India opener Wasim Jaffer who was Mumbai captain for a long time. Armaan was picked for India squad for the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Bangladesh.

Oman squad is training hard to be ready for the games under the watchful eyes of coach Duleep Mendis.

“We are glad that we will be up against a strong Mumbai side, providing us a perfect preparation for the WCL League 2 tri-series in September and the T20 World Cup in October,” said Mendis who is also Oman Cricket’s Chief Development Officer.

Oman is going to host two triangular series as part of the WCL League 2 tournament; first against Nepal and USA from September 13 to 20 followed by tri-series against Scotland and PNG from September 25 to October 2 and games against Mumbai will mean the much needed match practice for Oman against a quality side.

Mumbai squad: Shams Mulani, Aakarshit Gomel, Hardik Tamore, Armaan Jaffer, Chimany Sutar, Shivam Dube, Aman Khan, Sujit Naik, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shashank Attarde, Mohit Avasthi, Ravindra Solanki, Deepak Shetty, Drumil Matkar.

Team Manager: Arman Mallick. Coach: Amol Muzumdar. Physio: Abhishek Sawant. Fielding coach: Wilkin Mota. Bowling coach: Vishal Mahadik. Trainer: Dinesh Suvarna.
