Perth Scorchers star opener Beth Mooney has re-committed to the club for the next two Weber Women’s Big Bash League seasons on the eve of the WBBL|07 Final at Optus Stadium.One of the Scorchers’ fan favourites officially put pen to paper on a contract extension and is set to play at least four seasons in the orange.

Mooney has been in blistering form for Perth, plundering a season-high 528 runs at an average of 52.80 and a strike-rate of 132 this season, combining with skipper Sophie Devine to form the most destructive opening pairing in the League.

The Australian representative’s superb form at the top of the order for Perth was rewarded earlier this week, with the star named in the WBBL|07 Team of the Season alongside Devine.

Mooney also took the gloves for the side again this season, taking four catches and completing two stumpings for the tournament.

It’s been milestone after milestone for the ultra-consistent Mooney this season. She made her 100th WBBL appearance last week in Perth’s win over the Adelaide Strikers and recently passed the 1000-run landmark for the Scorchers.

Over her two phenomenal seasons in the orange, Mooney has made 1,079 runs at a strike rate of 124.30 featuring an unbeaten century and eight 50s.

Beth Mooney said;

“I’m thrilled to be re-committing to the Scorchers for the next two WBBL seasons, I have absolutely loved my time with the Club.

“I’m really proud to be able to contribute to the side, I love representing Perth and playing in front of our home crowds.

“We have such a talented group that has an incredible work ethic and culture, and I’m looking forward to our journey over the next few seasons.

“Whatever way it goes today, it’s a proud moment to be part of the Scorchers and hopefully, we can talk about starting a dynasty with the Scorchers and creating a legacy of players who know how to win games and win tournaments.”

Scorchers head coach Shelley Nitschke said;

“It’s been an incredible tournament for the team this season, and I’m extremely proud of their efforts and they’ve earnt the right to be at Optus Stadium for the Final today.

“It’s great to have Beth re-commit to the Club, she has played such a crucial role in the Club’s success over the past two seasons, and we continued to see how influential she was during our 2021 campaign.

“Beth has shown great leadership and brings a wealth of experience to the group and is a highly valued member of the team.”

The Scorchers will host the WBBL|07 Final against the Adelaide Strikers at Optus Stadium at 4:10pmWST today and are encouraging the WA community to #FillTheFurnace for the big battle.
