All-out for 15 world record

In an unbelievable cricket match that garnered world-wide attention, the Strikers bowled Sydney Thunder for a record-low score of 15, in only 5.5 overs. Henry Thornton took the fourth best Big Bash League figures of 5-3 at an economy rate of 1.06, while Wes Agar took 4-6 including his 50th BBL wicket. Amongst the carnage, Matt Short took one of the best catches seen at first slip while Harry Nielsen took five catches, the equal most by a wicketkeeper in the Big Bash.

New Year’s Eve returns with a bang

Adelaide’s biggest and best New Year’s Eve party returned with a bang at Adelaide Oval, with over 40,000 fans finishing their year with the Strikers. The WBBL championship winning Strikers side were celebrated pre-match and a post-match fireworks and lighting display was accompanied with a live performance from The Temper Trap. It truly was a Sweet Disposition and the best way to bring in the New Year.

Highest successful run chase in BBL

The Strikers broke another record in BBL|12 – the highest successful run chase in Big Bash history. Set 230 runs to win by the Hobart Hurricanes at Adelaide Oval, 27 boundaries were hit including four sixes each from Chris Lynn (64 runs off 29 balls at a strike rate of 220) and Adam Hose (38 off 22). However, the biggest contribution came from Matt Short in his first game as Strikers captain, who carried his bat and hit a four to bring up not only the winning runs, but also his maiden BBL century.

Fans flock back to Adelaide Oval

Almost 150,000 fans came to watch Adelaide Strikers home matches live in BBL|12 as Adelaide Oval turned blue and proved to be the place to be over the summer. Their support got the Strikers over the line four times at home, including in their three consecutive wins to begin the season and in their record run chase against the Hurricanes. As a thank you for their support throughout the season, there was ‘Fans on the Field’ after the final home game, where the 20,000 fans got an opportunity to run around on the hallowed turf.

Matt Short’s season

In BBL|12, Matt Short was the first Striker to earn the KFC BBL Player of the Tournament award when he became just the third player in 12 seasons to hit 400 runs and take 10 wickets in a BBL season. Winning the BKT Golden Bat award for most runs in the competition with 458, Short also took 11 wickets and seven catches and earned selection in the Team of the Tournament. Short was involved in one of the League’s best moments, when he finished 100* in the highest successful run chase in the competition’s history.
