New Legends prizes for 2023 thanks to continued Greene King support.

The PCA England Legends, sponsored by Greene King IPA, are back and raring to go for an exciting summer of fixtures with more to play for than ever before in 2023.

Thanks to Greene King Brewery’s on-going support and new for the 2023 season, a Player of the Match prize will be awarded to a member of each team at every fixture. Selected by the opposition players, each winner will receive a bespoke Mappin & Webb medal to mark their contribution to the event.

Another exciting addition will see the Player of the Year, voted for by the squad at the end of the season, now awarded a cash prize for the first time. The winning Legends player will receive £1,000 for themselves, as well as the opportunity to gift £2,000 to a recreational club of their choice, reflecting Greene King IPA’s ongoing support of grassroots cricket and sport more widely with its Proud to Pitch In scheme.

Stretching across the length and breadth of the country, the Legends will play games from Brentwood CC in Essex to Monton CC in Lancashire, starting this Friday 2 June against Eversley CC and running through until September. The Legends programme enables PCA members to not only meet cricket fans all around the country, but to also crucially stay in contact with each other and continue to enjoy the game they love.

The team will once again be captained by Alex Tudor, who has been influential in arranging the upcoming fixture at Kimbolton School. Having seen the benefits that Legends fixtures have brought their host clubs and schools over the years, Tudor has played a crucial role in bringing the team to Kimbolton where he is Cricket Master.

The Legends have nine showcase fixtures scheduled for an enthralling summer of cricket where they will look to entertain both on and off the pitch. Highlighting all Legends packages available, the team have short format matches, tournaments and player visits all booked in and ready to go.

The partnership between the Legends and Greene King IPA has raised more than £1,000,000 for local cricket clubs in England and Wales since its inception in 2016 and will continue to provide vital funding in 2023.

The Official Bat Supplier of the Legends, Neon Cricket, will once again provide high quality kit for the Legends players, as well as supporting the host clubs’ fundraising efforts. The PCA’s Official Skin Protection Partner, LifeJacket, will provide product to protect the players for those hot days in the field and the Official Casualwear Supplier to the PCA, Crew Clothing, will continue to ensure the players arrive looking their best to matches and at all non-playing engagements.

PCA England Legends captain, Alex Tudor, said: “It’s always an exciting time as we prepare for the first game of the new season and it’s great to be captaining the Legends again this year.

“Host clubs raised an amazing £167,000 last year and it would be great if we could exceed that amount in 2023. I’m especially looking forward to playing at Kimbolton and showing everyone at the school what the Legends are all about.

“These matches are only possible thanks to the hard work of the host clubs and our lead sponsor, Greene King IPA, as well as our suppliers Crew Clothing, LifeJacket and Neon who we are extremely grateful for.

“We can’t wait to get started against Eversley on Friday and I’m confident we will have a good season on and off the pitch.”
