Sydney Thunder have received a major boost ahead of the upcoming KFC BBL|13 season, securing the signature of Cameron Bancroft for the next three years.

One of the league’s most sought-after signatures, Bancroft joins the Thunder fresh off the back of the Perth Scorchers title win in BBL|12.

Currently having notched 1595 runs (averaging 33.93) in his Big Bash career to date, Bancroft made 68 appearances for the Scorchers, finishing his time in Perth as the club’s all-time third highest run-scorer.

One of the competition’s leading run-scorers last summer, contributing 357 runs from 11 appearances, the right-hander averaged 51 – the third best in the league – with a strike rate of 140.

The leading Sheffield Shield run-scorer last season, notching 945 runs (at 59.06), Bancroft played a vital role in securing back-to-back Shield titles for Western Australia, named the WA Player of the Year last summer.

Head of Sydney Thunder, Andrew Gilchrist said he was thrilled with the addition of the 30-year-old.

“We’re obviously delighted to have secured Cam and have him as a part of our group for the next three years. His talent and ability to contribute on field is evident, but he’s also a fantastic person and we know the value he’ll add to our group off field.

“His experience at the top of the order will be immense for us and his form, particularly in the second half of last season, made him one of the competition’s biggest targets this off-season.

“We couldn’t be happier to have him join the Thunder Nation.”

Further details about the upcoming season, including the complete KFC BBL|13 fixture will be announced in coming weeks.
