Three cricket volunteers have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to our game at the 2023 Sports Foyer NSW Community Sports Awards at CommBank Stadium on Thursday night.

Amongst the Sport NSW 12 Community Sports Award category winners announced, Blowfly Cricket’s Elysa Oliveri won the Young Coach of the Year gong, while Glenorie District Cricket Club’s president Amanda Fraser was named the Volunteer Director of the Year.

Both Oliveri (Gatorade Australia Young Leader of the Year) and Fraser (National Volunteer of the Year) were also both winners at Cricket Australia’s annual community awards in May.

Along with Oliveri and Fraser, Randwick Petersham Cricket Club stalwart Bill Anderson was one of 23 men and women, from a host of sports, honoured with a Distinguished Long Service Award.

Albury City Council (Local Council of the Year), with whom Cricket NSW and Sydney Thunder delivered First-Class and BBL fixtures, and Blacktown City District Cricket Association (Innovation of the Year) were finalists at the awards.

The Community Sports Awards and the Distinguished Long Service Awards acknowledge outstanding achievements and contributions to community sport, with winners receiving their Awards from the Hon. Stephen Kamper, NSW Minister for Sport.

Cricket NSW CEO, Lee Germon, paid tribute to award recipients.

“Elysa and Amanda exemplify all that is great amongst cricket’s many wonderful volunteers and the fact they continue to be recognised for their tireless effort is well deserved,” Germon said.

“Bill Anderson is someone who has put his heart and soul into cricket in many roles over decades and for that we are eternally grateful. On behalf of everyone in the NSW cricket community I’d like to thank him for his commitment and dedication, and congratulate him on earning Distinguished Long Service Award.

“The contributions of all the winners, from all the sports, showcases why community sport volunteers are the lifeblood of our communities.”.
