Titans Cricket hosted its annual Members Council Breakaway this past weekend at Camp Discovery in the Dinokeng Game Reserve.
The key objective of the breakaway is for the Union to acknowledge the important work that is done by the various clubs within Tshwane on grassroots and community level as well as amateur and performance cricket.
The breakaway also provided an opportunity for the Members Council to share some of their challenges from the 2022/2023 club cricket season and to assist in finding solutions to deal with those difficulties.
To begin the program, award certificates were handed to representatives from Irene Villages, Tuks Cricket and Adelaar for the completion of the MANCOSA Women in Leadership program by Ms Lindiwe Matimbe, Ms Renschi Botha and Ms Walri van Heerden.
“The breakaway weekends that we have with the Members Council have become a very important event on our calendar and I must commend the council for taking full advantage of the sessions.” Said Titans Cricket Services Manager Charlotte Serwadi.
“There are a lot of debates that take place and ideas put on the table which are all for the purpose of progressing the game of cricket in the city. The challenge is that there isn’t always a blanket solution to the different challenges we face so it becomes important to hear from everyone and apply our minds. Serwadi Continued.
Club cricket sustainability was a key agenda item and the council sat in on a presentation by Titans Cricket CEO Dr Jacques Faul on how clubs can aim to be more sustainable.
Following the conclusion of the Social Justice and Nation Building Hearings (SJN) Titans Cricket has been active in their quest to being a more inclusive organisation. Titans Staff and representatives have had a number of qualified speakers address them on dignity, diversity, race, equality and unity.
At this year’s breakaway, the members council had a special guest in Professor Christopher Isike from the University of Pretoria who spoke about equity, diversity and inclusion in cricket.
“We’ve been very intentional about offering this kind of training to our staff and members council after the SJN was concluded.” Explained Titans Cricket CEO Dr Jacques Faul.
“It’s very important the insights that we received from Prof Isike and it’s also very important that our Members Council have access to the knowledge that he shares.”
“We’ve built on well from last years breakaway where we had Advocate Alan Nelson, Mr Oscar Siwali and Professor Andre Odendaal address us and it is important that we take in all the information and apply to our daily lives.” Said Dr Faul.
