Jamie Overton and Marizanne Kapp win Hundred Players of the Year.
Jamie Overton and Marizanne Kapp have won The Hundred Men’s and Women’s PCA MVP Player of the Year awards having finished the competition as the number one ranked players, statistically.
In the men’s tournament, Oval Invincibles were victorious at Lord’s as Sam Billings’ side won by 14 runs whilst Southern Brave won by 34 runs in the women’s competition.
Kapp and Overton both receive trophies produced by Mappin & Webb as well as the £5,000 prize money for winning The Hundred MVP.
The PCA Most Valuable Player Rankings is powered by the leading global payment and currency risk management company, Argentex. The formula takes into account expected performance on every ball according to CricViz’s extensive database. The algorithm also considers the historic performances of the venue each fixture is being played at, therefore giving a more accurate reflection of the top performers in the game than traditional batting and bowling averages do.
Finishing on top of the men’s table with 115 points is Manchester Originals all-rounder Overton.
The England international enjoyed a brilliant tournament playing in every possible game as he helped his side successfully make it through to the eliminator and then final.
The 29-year-old scored 202 runs at an average of 40.4 and a strike-rate of 181.9 alongside taking three wickets and securing six catches in the competition.
A phenomenal innings of 83 not out off just 30 balls against Oval Invincibles secured the Surrey man a Match MVP award and 33 points on to his total.
Playing in the final, Overton’s unbeaten knock of 28 off 19 wasn’t quite enough to get the Manchester Originals over the line but it was to pip his captain to the MVP award.
England white-ball captain Jos Buttler also enjoyed a brilliant tournament finishing second with 110.6 points.
Buttler finished as the leading run scorer with 391 runs at an average of 43.4 with a strike-rate of 145.4.
The keeper-batter also picked up five catches and a stumping in the tournament and won three Match MVP awards.
His most impressive innings came against Southern Brave, scoring 82 off 46 balls in an epic run chase, winning by seven wickets.
Chris Jordan enjoyed a fantastic tournament finishing just behind Buttler in the MVP rankings with 110.04 points.
The Southern Brave all-rounder scored 107 runs at an average of 53.5 and a lightning strike-rate of 201.9, alongside taking nine wickets at 14.3.
The 34-year-old earned three Match MVP awards during the competition thanks to contribution with both bat and ball.
Scoring 22 off 11 balls and taking 3-18 against Trent Rockets earned him 32 points, whilst 15 off 10 balls and figures of 3-20 secured 26 MVP points.
It was against Welsh Fire that Jordan produced his most impressive innings of the tournament smashing an unbeaten 70 off just 32 balls including seven sixes as Brave won by two runs.
In the women’s competition, Southern Brave were triumphant at Lord’s in Anya Shrubsole’s final game of professional cricket, beating Northern Superchargers by 34 runs.
Danni Wyatt’s superb knock of 59 off 38 balls and three-wicket hauls for Kalea Moore and Lauren Bell helped secure the title for Brave.
However, the chasing pack were unable to reel in Kapp who secured 131 MVP points despite the Oval Invincibles not making it to the knockout stages.
The South African scored 147 runs during the competition at an average of 29.4 alongside taking 11 wickets at 12.5 with a phenomenal economy of 5.9 and finished joint second on the list of leading bowlers behind Southern Brave’s Georgia Adams.
The 33-year-old all-rounder won a Match MVP award against London Spirit taking 2-13 including the wicket of Heather Knight and then scored 30 off 24 balls with the bat.
Kapp also impressed against Birmingham Phoenix with a blistering unbeaten innings of 64 off 40 balls as Invincibles won by 10 runs, defending 142.
Kapp becomes the second person in her family to win the Hundred PCA MVP after her wife Dane van Niekerk won the award in 2021.
Finishing second on the table with an impressive 127 MVP points is Southern Brave’s Georgia Adams.
Adams enjoyed a stellar tournament amassing 136 runs at an average of 22.6 and finishing as the tournament’s top wicket taker with 16 dismissals with an incredible average of 12.8.
The 29-year-old picked up two Match MVP awards in The Hundred against Welsh Fire and Oval Invincibles.
Against Fire, she scored 40 off 24 balls and took 2-22 of her 20 balls to earn 33 MVP points and a victory for the Brave by two wickets.
The Charlotte Edwards Cup Player of the Year also picked up a Match MVP against Invincibles for figures of 1-23 and a match winning knock of 50 not out as Brave won by seven wickets.
Third on the list is last year’s winner of the Hundred PCA MVP Nat Sciver-Brunt who secured 116 points.
