We are thrilled to announce the upcoming Ngumbela Legacy Cup, a cricket extravaganza set to take place on the 9th and 10th of September at the iconic Ngumbela Cricket Grounds in Healdtown. This eagerly anticipated event will witness a clash of titans as the Dafabet Warriors face off against EC IINYATHI, while also showcasing the talents of the IINYATHI women’s team and the Eastern Province team. The cup not only promises high-octane cricket action but also emphasizes youth development and community engagement.

The Ngumbela Legacy Cup holds a special place in the hearts of cricket enthusiasts as it pays tribute to the rich cricketing heritage of the region while embracing modern values of inclusivity and opportunity. This year’s edition is particularly remarkable as it features a diverse array of teams, including both men’s and women’s squads, fostering gender equality within the sport.

Mr. Omphile Ramela, CEO of Border Cricket, expressed his excitement about the forthcoming tournament: “The Ngumbela Legacy Cup stands as a testament to the power of cricket in bringing communities together. This event not only celebrates top-tier cricket but also places emphasis on the youth, who represent the future of the sport. We are proud to support and showcase emerging talent from schools across the region, providing them with a platform to shine.”

Representatives from the participating teams also shared their thoughts on the upcoming matches:

Robin Peterson, Coach of the Dafabet Warriors, remarked, “Competing in the Ngumbela Legacy Cup is an honor. It’s a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate our skills and sportsmanship while paying homage to the cricketing legends who came before us. We’re ready to give our all on the field.”

Fritz Genevieve, Captain of the IINYATHI Women’s Team, added, “For us, this event is about breaking barriers and showcasing the immense talent that our women’s team possesses. We’re excited to share the stage with the men’s teams and inspire aspiring cricketers, regardless of their gender.”

The Ngumbela Legacy Cup extends beyond the boundary lines, focusing on youth development. Aspiring cricketers from local schools will have the unique opportunity to interact with their cricketing heroes and learn from their experiences.

The two-day event promises not only riveting cricket matches but also an atmosphere of unity, camaraderie, and shared passion for the game. Join us at the Ngumbela Park on the 9th and 10th of September to witness the fusion of tradition and progress in the world of cricket.

All the matches will be live streamed on YouTube.
