Former NSW and Australian cricket stars Belinda Haggett and Peter Toohey were confirmed as Cricket NSW Life Members at the association’s Annual General Meeting on Monday night.
Alongside Haggett and Toohey being bestowed with Life Membership at the meeting that was held at Cricket Central, another former NSW and Australian representative, Stuart Clark, was nominated and elected as a new member of the CNSW Board of Directors.
Clark, who played 24 Tests and 39 One-Day Internationals for Australia, along with 171 matches for NSW, is currently the CEO of Softball NSW, having held high profile administrative roles at the NSW Rugby League, with the Sydney Sixers and in media.
He was also named last week as an NSW Blues selector and continues to play an active role in Sydney Premier Cricket.
Haggett played ten Test matches and 37 One-Day Internationals for Australia in an international career that spanned from 1985/86–1993.
In her Test career, Haggett scored 762 runs at 58.61, with two centuries and four half-centuries. Only two women with 10 or more Tests have a higher average (Denise Annetts and Enid Bakewell).
She scored a century (126) on debut, against England, in England, in 1987. The second of her two Test centuries was 144 against India in 1990/91.
In 50-over Internationals, Haggett scored 913 runs at 30.43 with six half-centuries, and a highest score of 80. She was Player of the Series against New Zealand in New Zealand in 1990/91.
Domestically, Haggett played for NSW between 1981/82–1992/93, appearing in 61 Australian Women’s Championship matches, batting 60 times for 1489 runs at 28.63 with one century (106). She also scored six half-centuries (77, 76, 70, 71, 86, 51) and took 24 wickets at 16.04 with a best of 4/30.
Off the field, Haggett managed the Sydney Sixers women’s team from WBBL|01 to WBBL|04, with the team winning two titles during that time. In addition, she coached both girls’ and boys’ junior cricket in the Killara area high schools, from the early 2000’s through to 2015.
A proud product of NSW Country cricket, Toohey has also made an immense contribution to NSW and Australian cricket, both on and off the field.
Since making his First-Grade debut for Western Suburbs DCC in the 1972/73 season, he played 105 matches in the Sydney Grade competition for the Western Suburbs, Mosman and Manly-Warringah clubs, scoring 4042 runs @ 36.41.
From 1977–1979, he played 15 Test matches for Australia, scoring 893 runs @ 31.89, along with five One Day Internationals, scoring 105 ODI runs @ 52.5.
Toohey played 94 First Class matches (76 for NSW), amassing 5735 runs @ 37.98, and 30 List A matches, scoring 713 runs @ 33.95. He was a member of the NSW Sheffield Shield Final winning team of 1982/83 which broke a 17-year drought for the State. Nine of the 11 players that played in the Final for NSW are now NSWCA Life Members.
