Cricket NSW: Tucker and Wilson to umpire at ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup

NSW umpires Rod Tucker and Paul Wilson have been selected by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to officiate at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

Tucker, who resides on the state’s south coast, earns his fourth consecutive ICC Men’s World Cup appointment, having last been a part of the quartet of match officials that oversaw the 2019 final at Lord’s between England and New Zealand.

Wilson is set to umpire at his second ICC Men’s World Cup and will oversee proceedings in the tournament opener as TV Umpire between the last event’s finalists (above) on Thursday October 5, 2023.

The pair form part of a 16-umpire team who will officiate the 13th edition of the tournament including all 12 of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires and four members of the ICC Emerging Umpire Panel, they are: Chris Brown, Kumar Dharmasena, Marais Erasmus, Chris Gaffaney, Michael Gough, Adrian Holdstock, Richard Illingworth, Richard Kettleborough, Nitin Menon, Ahsan Raza, Paul Reiffel, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shaid, Rod Tucker, Alex Wharf, Joel Wilson and Paul Wilson.

The officials have been named for the entirety of the League segment, with the selections for the semi-finals and final of the tournament to be named on merit in due course.

Sean Easey, ICC Manager – Umpires and Referees said: “We are pleased to announce the match officials who will be overseeing the biggest ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup ever. This group is the best from around the world and will be ready to perform a challenging job, with the eyes of the global cricketing community focussed on the event.  

“We are confident that they will do an excellent job and wish them all the best of luck for what promises to be a World Cup to remember.”

Cricket NSW Head of Competitions and Officiating, Darren Goodger, was delighted to speak on the pair’s appointment. 

“All at Cricket NSW are so pleased to see Rod and Paul involved at the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Both enjoyed exceptional careers as cricketers, but it is through umpiring where they have made such a wonderful contribution to our game,” Goodger said.

“Rod and Paul are highly respected for their decision-making accuracy, for their people and match management skills, their exemplary teamwork, and their willingness to mentor and encourage other match officials. They are exemplary ambassadors for New South Wales Cricket Umpires’ and Scorers’ Association, Cricket NSW and Cricket Australia.

“We wish Rod and Paul the very best for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and offer congratulations on their appointment.”
