Cricket Hong Kong, China are pleased to announce their squad for the upcoming Asian Games 2023, to be held in Hangzhou from 19 to 25 September 2023.

This squad sees seven changes made to that which took part in the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier, due to the qualification requirements for the Asian Games. They will play a series of practice T20 games in Malaysia, before heading over to Hangzhou, China on 17 September 2023.

“This tournament provides us with an excellent opportunity to raise the profile of Hong Kong’s women’s cricket within Asia and especially in the greater China region” said HK Women’s head coach Andy Cottam. “This will be the first opportunity for several of our girls to play in front of such a large global audience, and against some of the best players in the region. We are looking forward to the experience and are aiming to continue our strong performances from the world cup qualifiers!”

Cricket will be played at the Asian Games for the first time since 2014. The Women’s Tournament consists of 9 teams, with Hong Kong, China playing against Malaysia in Group B. The winner of this game proceeds directly to the Quarter-Finals, while the losing team gets a second chance in the Quarter-Final Qualifier, where they play against the losing team from the Group A match between Indonesia and Mongolia. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Thailand all start their tournaments directly in the Quarter-Finals.

Akasha Yousaf, Chan Sau Ha, Cheung Kwai Hin, Ho Sin Yee, Lai Wing Ki, Lui Hei In and Poon Bo Yee are the new faces in the squad. Most of these players took part in the Exciting Hangzhou Women’s East Asia Cup in May 2023, with only Akasha Yousaf yet to make her T20I debut.

Hong Kong captain Kary Chan had this to say – “Our team is very excited to be playing in the Asian Games, and to represent Hong Kong in such a large global tournament. We hope to receive a lot of support from fans in the stadium, and are confident we can compete with all the teams taking part!”
