The second Betway SA20 auction takes place on Wednesday, 27 September with each of the six teams still to complete their 19-players squads, which will include a Rookie for the first time.

Betway SA20 runs through how each squad is currently shaping up, and what each team will likely want from the auction. Let’s take a look at MI Cape Town.

MI Cape Town

Remaining purse:

R5.05 million

List of pre-signed players: Rassie Van Der Dussen, Delano Potgieter, Ryan Rickelton, George Linde, Beuran Hendricks, Duan Jansen, Olly Stone, Grant Roelofse, Dewald Brevis, Kagiso Rabada, Rashid Khan, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Tom Banton.

Last season’s overseas retentions:

Rashid Khan (Afghanistan), Sam Curran, Olly Stone, Jofra Archer (all England)

New overseas additions:

Liam Livingstone, Tom Banton (all England),

Remaining player slots: 4

Auction: 3

Wildcard: 0

Rookie: 1

What they might want:

On paper MI Cape Town has all the bases covered. Express pace, left-arm and leg spin, high-quality all-rounders, left-arm swing, big-hitters, top-order dynamism. It’s all there! But that’s what we all thought last year too. And we know how that played out. So what will MICT be looking for in this auction to change their fortunes? Runs were difficult to come by last season, and although Tom Banton and Liam Livingstone have been added to the squad, they could likely be in the market for a local top-order batter with Dewald Brevis having been moved to the middle-order during the winter.

Potential purchases:

Janneman Malan (Base price: R175 000), Cameron Delport (R175 000), *Jonathan Bird (R75 000), Diego Rosier (R175 000), Gihahn Cloete (R175 000), Lesiba Ngoepe (R175 000), Jacques Snyman (R175 000), Tony de Zorzi (R175 000).
