South Africa’s thrilling T20 competition, the Betway SA20 kicks off its second season on 10 January 2024. Littered with Lions, the competition overflows with promise from the unearthing of new talent to the breaking of the record books.
A total of 16 Lions Cricket players will feature in the 2024 edition, including young guns
Lhuan-Dre Pretorius (Paarl Royals); Ronan Herrmann (Joburg Super Kings); Kwena Maphaka (Paarl Royals) and Connor Esterhuizen (MI Cape Town).
The Lions Cricket players featuring in the 2024 Betway SA20 are as follows:
• Sunrisers Eastern Cape (2): Temba Bavuma, Sisanda Magala
• MI Cape Town (5): Kagiso Rabada, Delano Potgieter, Ryan Rickelton, Rassie van der Dussen, Connor Esterhuizen
• Durban’s Super Giants (1): Wiaan Mulder
• Joburg Super Kings (2): Reeza Hendricks, Ronan Herrmann
• Paarl Royals (6): Mitchell van Buuren, Codi Yusuf, Bjorn Fortuin, Kwena Maphaka, Lhuan-Dre Pretorius, Evan Jones
Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright says he’s exceptionally proud that so many Pride members were snapped up by the various Betway SA20 teams and that it speaks volumes to the strength of the Union.
“Our strong representation in this competition is indicative of a cricketing eco-system that works. A special mention to CSA u19 player of the year Kwena Maphaka who will gain tremendous experience representing Paarl Royals. It’s worth noting that of the six rookies, three were from Lions Cricket – again signaling the power of our pipeline. So many players that will feature in this competition, have come through our ranks whether it be through the school’s system, clubs or provincial teams, and to see their hard work and that of our coaches, administrators, umpires and many others come to fruition, is a welcome reward indeed. Lions Cricket wishes all players a tremendous tournament, filled with runs, wickets, rewards and records.”
