Passion for cricket in South Africa often begins with KFC Mini Cricket and the KZN Inland Cricket Union recently hosted a 95 delegates for a seminar to thank all those volunteers who help get the next generation of cricketers passionate about the game.

Following an extended absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic the event at the AET Pietermaritzburg Oval also served as a relaunch of the KFC Mini Cricket programme in the region. The event also served as offered a platform for feedback on the CSA National Strategy, the KFC National Strategy as well as the National Seminar by KZN Inland Delegates.

Guest speaker for the day was Dr Imtiaz Sooliman of Gift of the Givers and he expressed the importance of volunteer work and how big a role volunteers play in our society.

“It was fantastic to have someone like Dr Sooliman, who is the perfect example of a volunteer, talking to our coaches and thanking them for their selfess work,” Cricket Services Manager at KZN Inland Ritesh Ramjee said.

“These coaches sacrifice so much time to give back to the youngsters and we appreciate all their hard work. To get recognition from a person like Dr Sooliman makes it worthwhile.

“We also want to show the volunteers that it is not just about cricket, it is about children living a healthy lifestyle through sport. Keeping them off the streets and giving them a chance to be noticed in the sporting world.”

The seminar is a chance for KZN Inland to also thank the coaches for the work they put in and for Ramjee it’s important that they continue to show appreciation for the work these volunteers do.

“We do this as a token of our appreciation for their dedication and hard work.

“Cricket has grown so much in KZN Inland Region and we are very grateful to KFC for their sponsorship, helping to encourage children to participate in the sport.”
