ACB name Andrew Puttick as National Team’s Batting Coach, James Parson as U19s’ Mentor

The Afghanistan Cricket Board is pleased to announce the appointment of former South African batter Andrew George Puttick as the National Team’s new batting coach and Gordon James Parsons as the National U19s’ Mentor for the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024.

Andrew Puttick, a left-handed opening batsman from Western Province, South Africa made his FC debut in the 2000-01 season, scoring his maiden first-class century in just his third game. Puttick might have only played a solitary ODI match but carries a rich domestic career having played 173 first-class matches, 172 List A matches, and 83 T20 matches, scoring around 17000 runs consisting of 40 centuries and 85 fifties.

As part of his coaching career, Puttick has recently served as the batting coach of the Pakistan Men’s National Team in 2023. His coaching journey includes roles as the Batting Consultant for the South Africa Women’s National Team from 2019 to 2023, Assistant Coach of the South Africa A, Batting coach of the South Africa Men’s Emerging Team and the Batting Consultant for the South Africa Women’s Emerging Team during the 2019-2020 period.

Gordon James Parsons, an English-South African with an extensive domestic record in England and South Africa, has been appointed as the National U19 Team’s Mentor for the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024.

Parsons, a right-arm medium-fast bowling all-rounder who batted left-handed, carries a remarkable career comprising 338 FC and 351 List A games. He scored 6763 runs and claimed 809 wickets in the FC format, along with 1941 runs and 351 wickets in the List A format.

Andrew Puttick has been granted a one-year contract and will join the Afghanistan National Team during the upcoming three-match T20I tour of India. Meanwhile, James Parsons has already joined the Afghanistan National U19 Team in South Africa, where he will mentor the Future Stars during the upcoming ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024.
