The Brisbane Heat has thanked Josh Brown for his two-year KFC Big Bash League stint following the confirmation today he had accepted a long-term contract with a rival club.

Brown joined the Heat as a Local Replacement Player for BBL|11 following stand-out performances for Norths in Premier Cricket and the KFC T20 Max competition, and made his BBL debut in the opening game of the season in 2022.

He went on to play in the BBL|11 Final loss to Perth before completing a pivotal role in this season’s BBL championship win by the Heat, including his record-breaking innings of 140 from 57 balls in the Challenger Final win over the Adelaide Strikers on the Gold Coast.

Queensland Cricket General Manager – Elite Teams, Performance & Pathways Joe Dawes said the Heat had made a ‘very competitive’ offer to retain the 30-year-old Brown.

“We provided Josh and his management with a two-year contract offer that was very lucrative and a significant uplift. However, we understand the lure of a multi-year commitment for him as a player, even though we believed our offer was very competitive and more than fair.”

“Our fans will justifiably be disappointed that he won’t be with us going forward, and as a club, we are sad to lose Josh, no doubt.”

“However, he will always have a special place in the club’s history, and we are proud that the Heat provided him with an opportunity to showcase his skill and make the most of his talent to benefit he and his family.”

“The Heat are very confident there will be other players now who will make the most of similar opportunities when they arise for them in the future.”
