First-time representative Rahid Alam honoured by the opportunity to represent his community

The Bangladesh community turned out in force to trial for the upcoming HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup, with more than 40 participants taking part in a competitive session at Cricket NSW’s indoor nets.

The players gave their all, displaying incredible enthusiasm – and skill – as selectors picked a 10-player squad to represent the Bangladesh community.

The team will be hoping to go at least one step further this year after being knocked out in the semi-finals by eventual runners-up Sri Lanka in last year’s tournament.

First-time representative Rahid Alam’s excitement was obvious as he described what his selection meant to him.

“It means quite a lot. To represent the Bangladesh community is a fantastic opportunity,” said Alam, who plays for Bankstown Cricket Club.

“In terms of personal development, this is such a strong group so I’m looking forward to playing some tough cricket. This opportunity to represent the green and red in Australia is an honour.”

Trudi Busch, Director of Marketing, Sponsorship and Community at HomeWorld, said the reason HomeWorld – who manage and develop the largest new home display villages across NSW – continue to support the Thunder Nation Cup is because its values extend beyond the cricket field.

“We are committed to partnering with Sydney Thunder to deliver the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup each year,” said Busch.

“Not only is it an important initiative that brings communities together, but it is a wonderful celebration of cricket and culture.

“We look forward to watching the tournament being played, and the pride and passion that each player will bring to their game as they represent their country.”
