Youngsters Tom O’Connell and Sam Elliott have signed with the Melbourne Stars for BBL|12.

O’Connell joined the Stars at the age of just 18 and has been around the squad ever since.

Originally from South Australia, O’Connell has been a part of the Victorian domestic system for several years and has impressed with his right arm leg spin, lower order batting and dynamic fielding.

Most recently, O’Connell was part of the Melbourne Stars Academy side that made the final of the Top End T20 tournament in Darwin in August.

“It’s great to re-sign with the Stars and continue to learn from the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Adam Zampa and Marcus Stoinis.

“I’m really looking forward to the season ahead and, it’s always good fun wearing the Stars uniform.”

Elliott is a right arm fast bowler who made his debut for the Stars in the opening game of BBL|11 at the SCG.

“After getting a taste of the BBL last season, I’m rapt to be back at the Stars for BBL|12.

“I’m looking forward to working with the coaches again and I can’t wait to learn as much as I can from one of the best fast bowlers in the world in Trent Boult.”

Melbourne Stars General Manager Blair Crouch welcomed their signatures.

“It will be great to see both Sam and Tom back in Green in BBL|12.

“We’re really pleased with the squad we’ve assembled so far and look forward to announcing our remaining list spots in the coming weeks.
