Di Venuto is set to join the coaching line-up of the Hobart Hurricanes

The Hobart Hurricanes are pleased to have former Tasmanian Tiger and Australian One-Day batsman Michael Di Venuto join their ranks for KFC BBL|10 as assistant coach.

Di Venuto has returned to Tasmania having spent four years as head coach for Surrey in the United Kingdom and regular spells among the Australian coaching staff.

He joins head coach Adam Griffith and senior assistant coach Ben Rohrer to lead the Hurricanes squad through the season.

Hobart Hurricanes general manager Scott Barnes said that the appointment rounded-out a strong coaching line-up.

“The opportunity to have Michael join our program this season isn’t the sort of thing that comes up very often”, said Barnes. “He’s a seasoned player and coach and will bring a lot to the playing group.”

“With the elevation of Ben Rohrer to senior assistant coach, it’s great to have Michael join him and Adam Griffith leading our squad through the summer.”

Hurricanes head coach Adam Griffith said Di Venuto brings a lot with him to the Tasmanian team.

“It’s exciting to have Michael coming home”, said Griffith. “It’s great to have someone with his experience, knowledge and personality around the team.”

“We coach as a group, and he’s going to bring his background and ideas to that mix.”

The new assistant coach is pleased to be back in Tasmania.

“I’ve spent a long time away from home, first with the Australian job and then at Surrey”, said Di Venuto. “It’s nice to be back here and good to be back in purple.”

“It’s an exciting playing list that Griff’s got. The Hurricanes haven’t won the title yet and it’s good to be here to help them win the first one.”
