Global sportswear brand Skechers has deepened its investment in cricket by signing India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav as a brand ambassador, marking a significant step in its push to establish credibility in the performance sportswear market.

A marquee signing to anchor cricket ambitions

The partnership will see Yadav wear Skechers’ cricket footwear on-field while fronting marketing campaigns across digital, retail and broadcast channels. The move reflects a broader strategy to combine athlete influence with product innovation as the brand targets one of the most commercially powerful sports ecosystems globally.

Yadav, widely regarded as one of the most innovative batters in modern cricket, has become a defining figure in the T20 format with his 360-degree strokeplay and consistent performances. Since debuting internationally in 2021, he has played a central role in India’s white-ball success, including captaining the side to victory at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Reflecting on the partnership, Yadav said, “At the highest level of cricket, comfort plays a critical role in helping you stay focused and consistent. Skechers’ approach to combining comfort with performance truly stands out and that’s what made the brand a natural fit for me. Whether it’s match day or training, their footwear supports the demands of the game, and I’m excited to be part of the Skechers family.”

Building a strong cricket ecosystem

Yadav joins an expanding Skechers cricket roster in India that already includes Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Ishan Kishan and Yastika Bhatia. The brand also counts football icon Sunil Chhetri among its ambassadors, underlining a multi-sport strategy in high-growth markets.

In parallel, Skechers has strengthened its team-level presence through its role as Official Kit Sponsor of Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, one of the most-watched sporting competitions globally. This dual approach—team sponsorship and individual athlete partnerships—provides consistent visibility while enhancing brand credibility within the cricket ecosystem.

Product innovation at the core

Central to Skechers’ cricket push is its expanding range of performance footwear, designed specifically for the demands of the sport. Products such as the Skechers Cricket Elite (with 11 metal spikes for traction and stability) and Skechers Cricket Blade (featuring seven spikes for agility and control) highlight the brand’s emphasis on technical innovation.

The strategy aligns with a broader shift in sportswear, where consumers increasingly seek products that combine elite performance with everyday comfort and versatility—an area Skechers has traditionally dominated.

Leadership view: aligning with modern cricket

Rahul Vira, CEO of Skechers South Asia Pvt. Ltd., framed the signing as a natural fit for the brand’s evolving positioning.

He said, “Suryakumar Yadav embodies the spirit of modern Indian cricket – dynamic, resilient and fearless. After captaining Team India with confidence and clarity to victory at the World Cup this year, he brings the same energy and intent that defines Skechers’ approach to performance and innovation. His journey, driven by movement, adaptability and self-belief, aligns strongly with our roster of elite players like Jasprit Bumrah, as well as our ongoing association as Official Kit Sponsor for the Mumbai Indians. These partnerships illustrate our commitment to cricket by creating footwear that enables every athlete to perform at their best.”

The bigger picture: cricket as a growth engine

Cricket continues to be a dominant commercial platform in India, driven by year-round competitions, massive broadcast audiences and deep fan engagement. For Skechers, aligning with one of the sport’s most influential contemporary players signals a clear intent to transition from a comfort-led footwear brand into a serious contender in performance sportswear.
