Preparations for the 2027 Asia Cup have moved a step forward, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) beginning operational planning after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) sought detailed information on the proposed host venues for the tournament. Mirpur, Chattogram and Sylhet have emerged as the leading candidates as Bangladesh works towards staging the continental event.

Speaking to the media, BCB Director and Chairman of the BCB Security Committee Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed said, “We have been contacted, and they have asked us for detailed information about the three proposed venues. We hope to formalise the matter within the next few days. As things stand, we are considering Mirpur, Chattogram and Sylhet, the regular international venues we have.”

While preparations are progressing, Ahmed stressed that the planning process remains ongoing and that key decisions have yet to be finalised.

He added, “Nothing has been finalised yet. God willing, if the Asia Cup is held in Bangladesh, you will get to see more details.”

As previously reported by cricexec, Bangladesh is expected to retain hosting rights for the six-team ODI tournament, which is currently scheduled to take place between June 18 and July 4, 2027, as part of the build-up to the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup later that year. The ACC is yet to formally confirm the tournament schedule, venue allocation and fixture list.

Focus remains on three primary venues

Although Bogura’s Shaheed Chandu Stadium remains under consideration, the BCB’s immediate focus is on preparing its established international venues for the tournament.

Ahmed noted, “We are working on the Bogura venue. Managing the venue properly is a separate matter. For now, however, the focus is on Dhaka, Sylhet and Chattogram.”

Bangladesh last hosted the Asia Cup in 2016, when the tournament was played in the T20 format, and the board is hopeful of successfully bringing the competition back after more than a decade.

He added, “We are hopeful that each of these venues will host at least one match. We will be able to share more over the next few days once the decision is finalised. We are optimistic that the Asia Cup will return to Bangladesh after so many years. We want to deliver a successful tournament for the fans and everyone who loves the game.”

India tour remains under discussion

Alongside the Asia Cup preparations, uncertainty continues over India’s proposed white-ball tour of Bangladesh, with formal discussions between the BCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India yet to begin.

Addressing the issue, Ahmed said, “Security is always a concern for every touring side, especially for the major cricketing nations. We have not yet formally started communication with them. We are hopeful there will be no complaints if the tour takes place as planned. We always try to organise our events in a controlled environment and ensure the highest standards of security. We will continue to do that.”

He added, “It will depend on the situation and if required we will enhance the security.”

The BCB is also awaiting greater clarity from India regarding the proposed series, with discussions continuing through official channels.

Ahmed concluded, “There has been no such positive message yet. We are still working out the details of the tour. We are trying to establish communication through our formal channels because the tour is coming up very soon. The draft schedule that is circulating should not be considered official. It is just part of the process.”

With preparations continuing over the coming weeks, Bangladesh remains on course to host the 2027 Asia Cup while awaiting formal confirmation of the tournament schedule and further developments regarding India’s proposed tour.
