Scotland’s governing body highlights commitment to integrity and fair play during Clean Sport Week 2025

Cricket Scotland has reaffirmed its commitment to anti-doping education and clean competition as it marks the beginning of Clean Sport Week 2025. The campaign, themed “The Next Generation,” underscores the importance of educating young athletes on ethical sporting practices from an early age.

The national governing body has long maintained a zero-tolerance policy toward doping, advocating for success through dedication, skill, and ethical play. Cricket Scotland’s anti-doping program is built on three pillars: education, prevention, and support.

Dr. Rajeev McCrae-Routray, Head of Science and Medical, emphasized the importance of investing in youth-focused initiatives:

“I’m proud to outline our comprehensive approach to anti-doping education and our unwavering commitment to the principles of clean sport,” said Dr. McCrae-Routray. “This year’s theme, ‘The Next Generation,’ resonates deeply with our long-term vision.”

Youth-centered approach to anti-doping education

Cricket Scotland has expanded its outreach to include age-appropriate anti-doping education for young players entering international competition. These efforts aim to instill the principles of clean sport from the earliest stages of a player’s journey.

  • Educational workshops on the WADA Prohibited List, testing protocols, and supplement risks
  • Confidential advisory services to guide athletes on medications and supplements
  • Mentorship programs pairing senior players with emerging talent to foster ethical leadership
  • Dedicated anti-doping webpage with youth-friendly content: Visit Here

“As we invest in The Next Generation, we are not simply teaching rules and regulations—we are cultivating ambassadors for clean sport,” added Dr. McCrae-Routray. “We are instilling values that extend beyond cricket: integrity, responsibility, and respect.”

Ongoing commitment to clean sport

Cricket Scotland remains committed to enhancing its anti-doping efforts in alignment with international standards, and to staying ahead of evolving challenges in sports integrity. The organization will continue to provide players with the knowledge, tools, and support needed to compete cleanly and proudly on the world stage.

Clean Sport Week 2025 is a timely reminder of the need to protect the game’s values through education, accountability, and long-term investment in future generations of cricketers.
