Cricket Uganda has completed a crucial statutory compliance process after its Special General Meeting adopted constitutional reforms and ratified the Executive Board, paving the way for a new chapter focused on governance, development, inclusion and the growth of the game across Uganda.
Subject: Outcome of the Special General Meeting held on July 18, 2026 at UOC Offices, Lugogo – Securing the Future of Cricket in Uganda
Dear Members of the Cricket Fraternity,
On behalf of the Executive Board, I extend my sincere appreciation to every club, regional association, stakeholder, and member who attended and participated in our last Special General Meeting (SGM).
Your presence contributions, and commitment to the future of our game demonstrate that despite our different perspectives we remain united by a common passion for cricket and a shared responsibility to safeguard its future.
The Special General Meeting was convened with a single and defined purpose: to address the outstanding statutory requirements necessary for the registration of Cricket Uganda as the National Sports Federation under the National Sports Act, Cap. 151.
The Assembly considered the following business:
- Calling the Assembly to Order and Opening Prayer.
- Roll Call of Members and Confirmation of Quorum.
- Welcome Remarks by the President and consideration of any reactions.
- Presentation, deliberation, and adoption of the revised Constitution.
- Ratification of the Executive Board.
It is important to emphasize that this was not a meeting intended to resolve every issue facing cricket in Uganda.
We acknowledge that there are important concerns, differing opinions, and legitimate aspirations across our cricket community. Those matters deserve thoughtful discussion and will continue to be addressed through the appropriate governance structures and future engagements.
The purpose of this Special General Meeting was much more immediate and fundamental to secure the legal and institutional future of cricket in Uganda.
Following its review of our application the National Council of Sports (NCS) identified several statutory non-compliances that required urgent rectification before Cricket Uganda could be registered as a National Sports Federation.
These included;
- National spread and meaningful participation of Ugandans in the sport of cricket.
- Governance structures and the election of leadership in accordance with the law.
- Constitutional deficiencies, including voting rights disparities.
- The omission of mandatory statutory documentation required under the National Sports Act.
The NCS further advised that failure to submit fully compliant documents and evidence of compliance by July 27, 2026 would result in the rejection of Cricket Uganda (CU)’s registration application thereby preventing Cricket Uganda from lawfully governing, promoting, and accessing public support for the development of cricket in Uganda.
Faced with this responsibility, the Assembly rose above individual interests and focused on the greater good of the game. Through constructive deliberations members considered the required reforms adopted the necessary constitutional amendments, ratified the Executive Board, and enabled Cricket Uganda to submit a comprehensive statutory compliance package aligned with the directives issued by the National Council of Sports (NCS).
I wish to particularly thank all members who despite holding different views on various matters recognized the importance of securing the legal foundation upon which the future of cricket in Uganda depends. This spirit of unity and collective responsibility is what will continue to move our game forward.
The successful conclusion of the statutory compliance process should not be viewed as the end of our governance journey. Rather, it marks the beginning of a new chapter. We now have an opportunity to focus our collective efforts on strengthening governance, expanding cricket across Uganda, investing in player development, improving domestic competitions, enhancing financial sustainability, and creating greater opportunities for every participant in our sport.
As President, I remain committed to listening to all members, promoting transparency and accountability, and ensuring that every decision taken is guided by the best interests of cricket in Uganda.
Let us now move forward together with renewed purpose. Our diversity of opinion should never become a source of division but instead a strength that enriches our decision-making. We have accomplished an important statutory milestone we must now build on it together.
I thank you all for your continued support, dedication and unwavering belief in the future of Cricket Uganda. Together, we will continue to build a stronger more inclusive, compliant, and successful game for generations to come.
